Red pout? No doubt!
Red lips are my go-to for a quick pick me up any day! A lot of my clients express their hesitation about giving this a shot because they think it won't look good on them. This is so untrue! It's all a matter of finding the right shade and finish for you. Here are my tips to nail this look according to your skin tone.
Medium Skin Tones: Opt for a shade of red which contains a slight orange hue to brighten up your complexion. My personal favorite is this shade shown above, NARS Semi Matte Lipstick in 'Heat Wave'.
Dark Skin Tones: All shades of red just pop against bronzed or darker skin and either blue or orange undertones will look fabulous. I'm really loving this super retro matte blue red by Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the shade 'Fiery'.
Fair Skin Tones: Blue based reds work best to compliment the pink/neutral undertones in fair skin. This classic matte lipstick by Revlon in the shade 'Really Red' looks stunning on fair skin. At only $8 a pop, if you're not sold on the trend, you can try it without breaking the bank! You can also try Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the shade 'Beso' - gorgeous!
General Tips: 1. Always begin by lining your lips with a well sharpened lipliner close to the shade of red you choose. Red lipstick tends to bleed easily due to its rich pigmentation, so this will prevent it. 2. Don't fret If you color a bit outside the lines. Simply take a tiny bit of concealer on a small concealer brush and lightly line the area where the red slipped out for seamless correction; don't forget to blend it into the skin. 3. Eyeshadow choice is personal, but I always opt for a neutral eye with a fabulous cat eye or a soft gray smokey eye to spice things up a bit. 4. Keep cheeks soft with some bronzer or a soft rose tone blush.
